Burglars Say that Security Guards Are #1 Deterrent

If you’re a business owner, chances are you have thought long and hard about how to most effectively prevent break-ins. Although there are a number of technologies that can help you monitor suspicious activity or notify you in the event of a break-in (like CCTV and alarm systems), you should also think about what measures might be taken to deter criminal activity in the first place. After all, catching a burglar is great, but not having to deal with a burglar at all is better.
When thinking about how to deter burglars from targeting your property, it helps to get inside the mind of a criminal. In a recent academic study on commercial burglary, a group of 27 inmates—former burglars—were interviewed to determine their motives and behaviour during break-ins. When asked which security measures would deter them from undertaking a burglary, most of the inmates had just one answer: security guards. 67% of respondents said that seeing a security guard stationed at a business would send them in search of another target (compare that to just 20% that said alarm systems were a deterrent).
It’s compelling to hear this information coming straight from the burglars’ mouths. It might—and probably should—get you thinking about adding guard services to your overall security strategy. But what if having your business watched over by full-time security personnel is outside your budget or beyond the scope of your security needs? At Optimum Security, our Mobile Patrol Services can save you money by offering professional security guard presence only at certain key times. With careful consideration of the individual security profile of your business, guards will arrive to monitor your premises when it’s most vulnerable, putting burglars on high alert, and giving them reason to think twice before targeting your property. Contact us today to get started planning a mobile patrol strategy for your business
